To Samuel:It’s not Petra in Jordania.
To Qwerty: yeah, maybe it’s from Cappadocia, Turkey. I’ve just found some photos similar to this village from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappadocia

The pictures are related with the very unique and amazing Village of “Kandovan”, which is located some 50 Km from Tabriz (Iran). Changes have taken place in architecual appearance and substances of the houses. The very amazing issue concist of the location of houses in the middle of mountains (Caves)!
There exists a similarity with “Cappadocia (Turkey).
Since two or three years there has beeb built a beautiful “Hotel” also in a “Cave”.
Kandovan is also very famous for its mineral water, which has helped and still rescuses thousands of “Nephrolit Patients” from their insufferable pains!

No idea where this is, but it reminds me a lot of Tataouine (in Tunisia), which of course was the inspiration for planet Tatooine in the Star Wars movies. Several scenes in Star Wars were filmed Tataouine or the nearby villages of Chenini and Douiret.
Also, you may find the Australian town of Coober Pedy to be interesting.

As earlier mentioned, this Village is located in Iran!
The distance to next great City “Tabriz” is ca. 50 Km.
Famous for its mineral water against renal diseases!

the pics are amazing…they’ve somehow turned a wasteland into a hidden oasis…the only thing that would concern me for habitation in the place is adequate plumbing…other than that…its ideal…

And where do you think the shower and toilet is at, people? Did you notice the open sewer right in the middle of the steps? I bet that smells real nice…

You can find more photos on my website. The swear system is series of wells individually dug. The water you see flowing is from household use ( brown water ). The human waste goes into the wells. Pictures 12 and 13 from the top are not Kandovan. Picture 12 is from another location because the architecture does not match that of the region. Number 13 is a cave system close to Kandovan about 10 Km away.
